Tree cutting in Whistler is regulated by Development Permits (DPs) and the newly adopted Tree Protection Bylaw.
Tree cutting in Whistler is regulated by Development Permits (DPs) and the newly adopted Tree Protection Bylaw.
To determine what, if any, permits are required for your situation, begin the process by visiting the RMOW website and finding out whether or not your property is located within a Development Permit Area (or DPA).
To confirm if your property is located within a DPA, you can use Whistler’s GIS mapping tool.
To effectively use the GIS Mapping tool for your situation, navigate to your parcel on the map. Select the OCP layer, and deselect WUDCA and Schedule A. Then, deselect all other Schedules, and select the schedule that is pertinent to your location. Note: The Multi-family DP Area overlays most of the Municipality outside of Whistler Village. However, developments that are not multi-family, primarily detached or duplex parcels, are exempt from the multi-family DP, and regulation of tree works on these parcels are controlled by the Tree Protection Bylaw.
If it is determined that your situation is solely regulated by the Tree Protection Bylaw, please visit our page on the new Tree Protection Bylaw for more information.
